Healthy Happenings:

Influenza H1N1 (Swine Flu) has now been reported in Glenwood Springs.

• Influenza H1N1 has been reported in our community.  Influenza is an illness of fever, sore throat and cough.  If you think you may have influenza let's decide together how to best help you and/or your family member.
• Our physicians recommend that if an influenza like illness is occurring in an otherwise healthy person, and the symptoms are mild, there is no need to come into the clinic.  That person can simply be cared for at home with fluids and fever medications.  Please watch carefully for the rare complications of influenza.
• If the person is particularly ill, (fever >103, breathing difficulty, severe throat or chest pain, dehydration or decreased alertness) they need to be examined by a physician right away.
• If the influenza illness is occurring in a high risk person, (less than age 5 or greater than the age of 65; a person with heart disease, lung disease or weak immunity), they need to be examined by a physician right away.

           For established patients, we are now offering patient care in the comfort of your own home at the very reasonable price of $20.00.  A special new interactive feature, the Virtual Doc Visit at GMA allows patients to visit with their physician, presenting their medical concerns or requests for medication or appropriate web based treatment.  Replies will be prompt, within a few business hours.
